Points to be kept in mind while developing mobile apps

April 17, 2014 05:11:03 AM

Smartphones and tablets have become an indispensable part of our lives and for most people it is a necessity more than a luxury. Whether itís for personal needs; business or entertainment etc.; almost every aspect of our lives now requires the help of smartphones. Therefore, developers are always under pressure to be adept at multiple technologies and create mobile apps for consumers that can meet every demand.

Therefore, while developing a mobile app, developers should keep in mind some basic points that will help employees to be more productive in their workplace and at the same time keep customers informed and updated.

1. Do keep in mind the user experience, whether you are developing apps for smartphones or for tablets. Donít just create one for the sake of creating it. It should be something useful that people will need to use several times in a day. Moreover, mobiles are essentially different from laptops and desktop computers; therefore do not just install an existing desktop application into your mobile device. An app needs to be designed keeping the user experience in mind.

2. There are thousands of mobile app developers and not everyone is a hard core programmer or technical wizard; you donít need to be one too. But what you must know is some coding fundamental basics such as C and Objective-C programming languages. There are innumerable online resources to take help from.

3. Integrate real-time updates in your business app so that users can respond and react to different updates based on information they receive. This helps an enterprise app to be more responsive in day-to-day business.

4. Most mobile devices have inbuilt Camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, 3G or LTE etc. Therefore try making maximum use of these sensors. Factors such as changing the display and adapting to different positions when the device is tilted etc.; getting real-time updates based on locations or uploading pictures immediately and various such issues should be kept in mind.

5. Last but not the least, always test your apps with the help of different testers before releasing the same. No matter how attractive your app looks, usability testing is a must. You can consider giving it to a few trusted people or even target college students to get a decent feedback and only then release it in the market.
